The 16U team took it up a notch in a strong field at the 10th Annual 17U 4th of July Showcase presented by Firecracker Baseball Showcase Tournaments. They competed hard at Stonehill College, and won their pool with a 4-0 record against North Attleboro's Post 49 Legion Team (MA), local rival Baseball Unlimited Tigers 16U (MA), Grand Slam Samurai 16U (MA), and Seacoast United Pirates 16U Showcase (NH). The pool play highlight was Robert Chase's gritty head dive into first base to squeeze out a needed hit and spark a dramatic rally and walk off win. The pitching staff once again was solid, led by consecutive starters Joel Culkins, Sam Bolinsky, Ryan Donavan, Andrew Hill, with strong relief from Frank Ricciardone, Corbin McAlpine and Zach Sousa. The team earned a position in the play-offs in RI at Johnson and Wales University seaside baseball facility facing the local rival - Baseball Unlimited 17U. The Blazers locked into another fierce pitching duel with an ace from BBU against the Blazers' ace Joel Culkins. Joel with Corbin McAlpine in relief set up the Blazers for yet another opportunity to steal one in the bottom of the 7th. With backs against the wall, 2 outs, Robin Glass thrilled the large crowd drilling a triple to right knocking out the BBU starting pitcher. Though the Blazers run ended in a gritty 3-2 loss, their performance against this 17U team was outstanding. Every player on the team made key contributions throughout the tournament. With a short Summer break now, next up for the Blazers 16U is the In The Zone 16u Tournament in RI.
